  In 2011 my wife and I purchased a Perma-Treat sealant service for the master shower in our new house. This decision was made based in large part on the company’s lifetime guarantee. At the time we were told by the provider to regularly clean the shower and occasionally spray it with 10% bleach to prevent mold. Following this recommendation the seal appeared to hold up until summer 2016 when black stains appeared in the grout. A representative visited our house in August 2016 and suggested we purchase their $50 cleaner to remove the stains. We did as such and applied it repeatedly for 6 months. The discoloration was diminished but clearly still evident. Given the guarantee and expenses incurred we requested another plan by Perma Treat to resolve the issue. In short, this interaction was shockingly unprofessional, confrontational, and accusatory. First, the appointment was scheduled for 12:15 but the representative (business owner?) was there at 11:45 and insisted my wife was late when she showed up after that. Next, the solution he proposed was for us to pay $250 to have them re-clean the shower. Finally, the representative treated my wife with condescension regarding the cause of the sealant’s failure, suggested the builder did not install the grout properly, and that her husband could explain why. They left without having resolved any aspect of the problem. Regrettably we have referred Perma Treat to multiple friends over the years but obviously never again. Local service-based companies generally require word of mouth recommendations to be successful. Good and trustworthy companies consequently behave toward patrons in a manner consistent with this. Unfortunately I am forced to conclude that Perma Treat has chosen a philosophy that demonstrates a lack of confidence in their product and disregards customer orientation.
